Some Estrela Mountain Dog Facts

Long ago, the Estrela Mountain Dogs were bred to work as guardians of sheep and other livestock for shepherds.  They would also guard the properties of farmers.  They are still used to this day for those tasks but not nearly as much. You can also find Estrela Mountain Dogs working as police dogs and doing other useful tasks.

What Kind of Exercise does the Estrela Mountain Dog Need?

Let’s start off by saying we recommend a fenced-in yard for your Estrela!  They love to run and will guard the entire neighborhood.  The Estrela Mountain Dog needs a moderate amount of exercise.  We find ours have bursts of energy and are very happy laying and watching the yard most of the day.
