Dear PPCA Members,

As your new President of the PPCA, I would like to introduce myself briefly. I am a former cheesemaker and farm owner and live in Windsor, Connecticut, with my family.  I own Star Mountain Kennel, along with 11 dogs, 3 of which are Podengo Pequenos. (The others are of two other Iberian breeds, Estrela Mountain Dogs and Great Pyrenees.)  We fell in love with the lively little Podengos while visiting friends in Portugal and brought our first Podengo girl home from there and bred her with a male we borrowed from Portugal. We kept a beautiful female from our first litter. This year we added our third Podengo, David, from Finland.

As I write this I am wondering if we will ever have a weekend again that doesn’t involve snow or ice.   Many of you do not live in New England, but here we are wondering if we may have stumbled into a winter that lasts forever.  While I find it fun to take pictures of the dogs enjoying the snow, the Podengos are going a bit stir crazy waiting for Spring.   They miss running around the field with the warm sun on their backs.

Now on to Club business.  First  I would like to introduce our 2015-2017 PPCA Board:

Our board comprises members from all over the United States and owners of all three sizes of Podengos.  The club now holds a provisional national breed club license from the United Kennel Club.  We are excited to work with the UKC in the future planning events for our members and other dog lovers.

Speaking of events, we are already in full swing planning this year’s Specialty Show.  The event will be in New Bedford, MA, onJuly 25th and 26th.  Please mark your calendars and plan on attending the Show.  New Bedford has a large Portuguese community that is excited to host the PPCA 2015 Show.

I invite all our PPCA members to contact me and please send in pictures of your Podengos.   We want to see Podengos out there hunting, showing, and enjoying life.   I look forward to meeting you this year at UKC shows, as well as AKC shows.  If you see me, please stop me and say hello.
